A Story Worth Remembering follows a week long experiential process of going back to roots. A small group of committed African community leaders and change-makers come together to reflect on the rich traditional heritage of their continent and ask what part they should play in redefining 'development' and reclaiming Africa's identity from its colonial past.
The voices of traditional custodians, of sacred natural sites in Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa and Uganda, are shared in this emotive film. They met at a remarkable gathering of custodians, held in Nanyuki, Kenya, in April 2012, to share their experiences and concerns, the threats facing their sacred lands, and their hopes for future generations. Together they drafted a Statement on Common African Customary Laws for the Protection of Sacred Natural Sites, drawing from their ancient birthright and duty to protect their sacred lands and comply with the laws of the Earth.
