Seeds of Freedom Trilogy

The Seeds of Freedom trilogy charts the story of seed from its roots at the heart of traditional, diversity-rich farming systems across the world, to being transformed into a powerful commodity, used to monopolise the global food system.

Across three 30 minute documentary films – Seeds of Freedom, Seeds of Sovereignty & Seeds of Justice – The Gaia Foundation and our global partners explore the ways in which the industrial agricultural system, and genetically modified (GM) seeds in particular, have impacted upon the agro-biodiversity evolved by farmers and communities around the world over millennia.

Watch the films below and follow links to the films in various languages across our Vimeo channel.

The Gaia Foundation strongly promotes screenings of the films around the world. For this reason all the films can be downloaded directly from Vimeo. We have created a Host a Screening Guide for anyone looking to share the films with a public audience. This is accompanied by Frequently Asked Questions and a Poster Template. These materials are particularly designed for screenings of Seeds of Freedom.

If you would like to purchase DVD’s of any of these films, including the Talking Heads series, please contact The Gaia Foundation directly on [email protected]

With thanks to our partners the African Biodiversity Network, GRAIN, Navdanya and Melca Ethiopia, each of whom collaborated on the making of these films. Huge appreciations to filmmaker Jess Phillimore for the years he dedicated to seeing them come to life.

We live in a time of multiple, complex crises. There are no easy answers. Working to uphold the health and diversity of our living planet is always rewarding, but we think you’ll agree it can sometimes feel like swimming against the stream. And yet like salmon we leap, and more often than you might expect, we make it. We invite you to make the next leap with us by making a donation of any size. Thank you for your solidarity.
