Gaia: From Story of Origin to Universe Story, by Jules Cashford

This 50-page booklet reflects on how humanity has reached this point in our history where we are confronted by crises of our own making, and how this ancient Greek Story of Origin, like all others, shows us the way back home. Jules Cashford gives us a beautiful introduction to Gaia, from her origins as the Great Mother Goddess of Earth in Greek mythology, through different times and cultures, to her present day incarnation as inspiration for the growing recognition that the Earth is our source of law.

Commissioned by the Gaia Foundation, this small book approaches Earth Jurisprudence through myths and creation stories, exploring their importance to the human psyche, and suggesting how these stories of origin can disclose and re-imagine our changing relationship with our planet. Inspiring and thought-provoking, it takes us on a journey back to European roots, where we connect to the universal roots of all other human traditions.

Exploring Wild Law: The Philosophy of Earth Jurisprudence

A collection of essays by various authors, edited by Peter Burdon.

Wild Law, underpinned by Earth Jurisprudence principles, emphasises our human interconnectedness and dependence upon Nature, and the responsibility that comes with that relationship. It asserts that the Earth is the source of law, and that humans need to derive their laws from the laws of the Earth, which govern all our lives. It critiques the ways in which existing law promotes environmental harm, and seeks to establish a mutually enhancing human-Earth relationship which should be reflected in our legal system.

For the first time, this volume brings together voices from some of the leading proponents of Earth-centred law including an essay from Gaia's Founding Director, Liz Hosken. It introduces readers to the philosophy of Earth Jurisprudence and considers its relationship to environmental law, the rights of Nature, science, religion, property law and international governance.

Selection of 4 Limited Edition Prints of Amazonian Medicinal Plants. Painted by Sophia Louise Joseph

A set of four beautiful limited edition prints taken from original paintings by Sophia Louise Joseph.

These paintings were produced as part of a study into medicinal plants carried out by the Rainforest Information Center, in partnership with the Huaroni people of the Ecuadorian Amazon. These high quality prints include the Latin and local names, and descriptions of the plants and their uses.

1. Bactris gasipaes plamae; Dagenka; Chontaduro

Known as the "Palm of the Ancestors", this highly valued tree is a symbol of abundance and well- being. The fruit is high in protein and is an important food source, and the wood is used to make spears for the warrior nation.

2. Mauritia flexuosa palmae; Nontohue; Morete

The huge branches of fruit produced by this beautiful palm are a highly valued source of food, while the young plant is used medicinally to alleviate pain.

3. Brugmansia x insignis solanaceae; Huandu

This potent and dangerous hallucinogenic drug is sometimes taken to prove inner strength as a personal challenge. The scent from the flowers can produce a deep sleep.

4. Mansoa standleyi bignoniaceae; Huigagen; Ajus Huasca

This is known as the "Garlic Vine" on account of the scent of the leaves, an infusion of which prevents the contraction of Malaria. The plant also treats colds, fevers, aches and pains.

Each print measures 335mm x 500mm. You can view images of all four designs and purchase the limited edition prints for £15 (+ postage and packaging) by clicking here. If you choose to purchase all four designs, you will make a £10 saving!

Animate Earth - Science, Intuition and Gaia

Animate Earth is a documentary film written and presented by Dr Stephan Harding, renowned ecologist and colleague of James Lovelock.

Stephan puts forward a radical approach to the ecological crisis by arguing that many of the problems we now face stem from having lost our intuitive relationship with nature. Stephan believes that traditional mechanistic science has inadvertently fueled the crisis and that we urgently need to develop an expanded science that cultivates intuitive wisdom alongside rational knowledge so that we can experience everything, from the smallest microbes to our planet's great life-sustaining cycles, as deeply interconnected.

Building on the revolutionary discoveries of James Lovelockʼs Gaia Theory, Stephan goes one step further and explores opportunities to heal our relationship with the Earth through the new discipline of holistic science.

The film features interviews with leading environmentalists, scientists and spiritual leaders, including Brian Goodwin, Iain McGilchrist, Fritjof Capra, Vandana Shiva, Jules Cashford and Satish Kumar.

Running Time: 45min
